M.S. Herbermann Manor, which is located at the corner of Summit Avenue and Hague Street, a 45 unit workforce housing project is nearing completion. 

The units will all be two bedroom condominiums. The sales price will be set at 5 units at 45% of median, 5 units at 55% of median, 5 units at 72% of median and the remaining 30 units will be set at emerging market. The project will meet LEEDS Silver standards and incorporate energy-efficient technoligies.

The Project honors Dr. Margaret Sullivan Herbermann (1878-1963) a physician and advocate for children with disabilities. Dr. Herbermann's efforts resulted in the founding of the School for Crippled Children at Clifton Place in Jersey City in 1921. Considered the "first of its kind in the United States, the school enrolled children throughout Hudson County" , today that school is the A. Harry Moore School.

Jersey City, NJ - The City of Jersey City will celebrate its third annual Green Awards on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.

Since its inception, the Green Awards has quickly been embraced by the business and environmental communities. The number of nominees has risen ten fold and honorees are chosen on a highly competitive basis.

We pride ourselves on selecting a number of applicants who ordinarily would not be recognized for their contribution to our City stated Robert Antonicello, Executive Director of the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency.

"I'm constantly amazed at how far the city has come over the last five years in terms of building a sustainable city. We're very happy with this year's honorees because it truly represents our mission of building not just a sustainable city, but sustainable partnerships in building our city." said Antonicello.

This year's honorees include Hudson County Executive, Thomas DeGise, as a Partner in Progress for his commitment to Brownfield to Greenfields in Berry Lane Park; the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the U.S. Department of Environmental Protection (EPA) for their outstanding work in helping to remediate the Turnpike Dump, a long standing problem in the city for well over the last forty years. In addition the City will honor two municipal employees who have demonstrated the spirit needed to build the city of the future: Betty Kearns (retired) for lifetime achievement and Naomi Hsu, Transportation Planner in the Division of Planning, for her excellent work for Mobility 2050 and exemplifying the kind of dedication needed in local government.

In addition, three projects, each of them representing a different scale of project, but all of them absolutely important in building successful models will receive an award. Franklin Development Group will receive its second J.C. Green Award for its Margaret Herbermann Manor, a forty-five unit, LEEDS "Silver," workforce housing project located in the Heights section of Jersey City. This project, which is now wrapping up is a certified Leeds "Silver" project. The second Project of the Year Award is awarded to GRO Architects, a husband & wife architectural team, Nicole Robertson and Richard Gaber, who designed the one-family 1600 Sq. Ft. Sustainable home in Greenville. Also being honored is Dennis Carpenter, the homeowner who approached GRO to design this landmark project in Greenville. The third Project of the Year is presented to G & S Investors, the developers of Metro Plaza for the installation of solar panels on the Shoprite building at the Plaza. All of these projects represent this "coming-of-age" of sustainable building in Jersey City.

"The Green Awards is our way of thanking and recognizing the City's green pioneers. They are the trail blazers who will lead our environmentally responsible development now taking hold in our City and the State," stated Jerramiah Healy, Mayor of Jersey City.
